I know, I know. You are hoping for something revolutionary, something new, something exciting, something easy.....but it has to do with addressing cholesterol and obesity, and it is just old-fashioned weight loss.
Studies have shown that for every 1 pound lost, it decreases knee joint pressure by 4 pounds. In other words, for every 10lbs lost there is a 40lb decrease in pressure on the knees just with walking. Now think of how many steps you take a day!
More interestingly, research indicates that increased cholesterol levels in the blood perpetuate an inflammatory process that contributes to the degeneration of articular cartilage of the joints.
Even more interesting....there is a link between the rise of insulin resistance and glucose tolerance and unchecked cholesterol levels. Not only that, but in women, a link between decreasing estrogen levels and all of the above as we hit perimenopause and menopause.
So now what? Start exercising and start switching to a healthier diet with more plants and protein.
